How Isochronic Tones and Brainwave Entrainment Can Improve Your Life

Do you know about all the things that isochronic tones may be able to do for you? Whether you're interested in becoming more confident, beating insomnia, thinking more creatively and improving your memory - or are looking for more esoteric experiences such as having out of body experiences and lucid dreams, or developing psychic powers, there's an isochronic tone recording that can help.

If you want to find out more about isochronic tones, continue reading, because it's worth your while to learn more about this increasingly popular technology.

Isochronic Tones Defined

Isochronic tones are a type of sound-based brainwave entrainment technology. They consist of sound pulses of certain frequencies that repeat rapidly. By listening to an isochronic tone recording, you may be able to to access various mental states and abilities more easily.

Keep reading for a more detailed look at how brainwave entrainment works. Then after that we'll examine isochronic tones in particular.

How Does Brainwave Entrainment Work?

Brainwave entrainment - which is also referred to as brainwave synchronisation - is based on the tendency of the brain to match (or entrain to) a periodically repeating stimulus, like pulses of light or sound. If the frequency of this stimulus matches brain's natural frequency range, the brain will begin to produce brainwaves of a similar frequency - this phenomenon is called the 'frequency following response'.

Brainwave frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz), or cycles per second, and the waves can be tracked using technology such as electroencephalogram (EEG) machines. Most professionals recognise the existence of four primary frequency bands, which are used to classify brainwaves. These are the delta, theta, alpha and beta ranges.

Delta brainwaves (

These low frequency brain waves are produced mainly during deep (non-dreaming) sleep. In addition, they're associated with very deep trance states, cell regeneration and certain expanded states of consciousness.

Theta brainwaves (4 - 8Hz)

The production of theta brainwaves is associated with trance states and a number of psychic abilities, along with deep meditation and self-hypnosis. The subconscious mind may be easier to access in the theta state, making it useful for gaining insights and reprogramming unhelpful beliefs. Theta brainwaves are also produced in abundance during dreaming (REM) sleep.

Alpha brainwaves (8 - 12 Hz)

People produce alpha waves when they're lightly relaxed, as such as when daydreaming. They're also produced when the eyes are closed or we are in the half awake state between sleeping and waking. Alpha wave production is vital for psychological health, and those who are afflicted with mood disorders such as anxiety may produce fewer alpha waves than normal.

Beta brainwaves (> 13Hz)

When we're fully awake and focused on a demanding task, beta brainwaves are produced. Although most people have no problems accessing the beta state, some individuals - such as those suffering from ADD - may produce fewer beta brain waves than usual.

It's worth noting that not all researchers agree on where the frequency bands start and end, so these figures aren't absolute. In addition, there are other, more disputed, brainwave types, such as episilon and gamma waves, which are beyond the scope of this article.

How Brainwave Synchronization Can Help You In Day To Day Life

The great thing about brainwave synchronization is that it can make it easier to enter particular states of consciousness or access particular mental abilities. For example, you might want to be able to hypnotize yourself at will. Becoming proficient at self-hypnosis can normally take a long time, by using a brainwave entrainment recording that's designed for this purpose, you may be able to enter a self-induced hypnotic state significantly more quickly and easily, thanks to the brain's frequency following response.

While there are a variety of brainwave entrainment technologies available (such as different mind machines), the simplest, most economical and most convenient method is to use sound recordings. These are available on CD, or can be downloaded from the web, and they fall into three categories: isochronic tones, binaural beats and monaural beats. Let's take a look at how these differ.

Isochronic Tones Vs Binaural Beats Vs Monaural Beats

These three methods all work slightly differently, although all may be very effective.

Binaural beats are the oldest and best known variety of brainwave entrainment. When using binaural beats, you use headphones, and each ear receives a pure sine wave tone of a specific frequency. The original tones are then integrated by the brain, and it produces a third tone. The frequency of this third tone is equivalent to the difference between the original two tones. For example, let's say the right ear receives a tone of 325Hz, and the left ear a tone of 330Hz. There is a 5Hz difference between these sounds, so the brain will produce a 5Hz tone, before entraining to this frequency (which is in the theta brainwave range). So you can see that by altering the frequency of the tones entering each ear, you can control the frequency of the tone created by the brain.

Monaural beats vary in that the two sine waves are merged before reaching the ear. Consequently the brain doesn't have to generate the correct tone, and many find that monaural beats are more efficient for this reason. Monaural beats also don't require headphones, although they can still help to shut out distractions when listening.

Isochronic tones feature just one tone, which is turned on and off very quickly. They differ from monaural beats in that there's a space between each tone - this silent interval appears to make isochronic tones particularly easy for the brain to sync with.

Are Isochronic Tones The Best Brainwave Synchronization Method?

Thanks to the ease with which the brain can match them, many people who are experienced with brainwave entrainment agree that isochronic tones are the most effective brainwave synchronization method for many purposes.

Having said that, you should be aware that isochronic tones (and monaural beats too) may not be as effective for delta synchronisation. At lower frequencies the tones start to sound somewhat jagged, and can be irritating and distracting. In contrast to binaural beats, isochronic tones can't be totally hidden by music or other sounds, so they have to remain audible. As a result, a lot of brainwave entrainment aficionados choose to stick with binaural beats for delta work instead.

So, isochronic tones are excellent for entraining to the theta, alpha and beta frequencies, but you may not get the same results with delta work. However, it's a good idea to experiment for yourself to see what works for you - you may find that they work well at low frequencies, or you may well decide you prefer monaural or binaural beats - you won't know unless you try!

Things Isochronic Tones Can Help With...

Isochronic tones aren't as widely known or commonly used as binaural beats (which are a much older technology), but they are growing to be progressively more popular. Here are some of the things isochronic tones are used for:

Memory improvement
Expanding your creativity
Better sleep
Reducing anxiety
Tapping into your extra-sensory abilities, like telepathy etc.
Boosting your energy
Astral projection
Learning to have lucid dreams
Achieving Christ Consciousness
Better self-hypnosis sessions
Balancing your chakras
Past life regression
Overcoming addictive behaviour
Releasing endorphins
Boosing your motivation
...and many more!
Isochronic tones are so helpful because practically everything we want to do and experience is linked with a particular mental state. And because these various states correspond to the production of brainwaves of certain frequencies, listening to sounds that trigger these frequencies in the brain may help you to get into the state you want at will. You can achieve similar results by learning mind control methods, but this is normally a long-term effort; brainwave synchronization just helps to make the entire process much quicker and easier.

Do Isochronic Tone Recordings Work For Everyone?

To be honest, no - as with any other technique, people will have different experiences with with isochronic tones. This might be a result of some natural resistance to brainwave synchronization. Or it could be that they don't work with the recording for enough time to experience the results they want (it doesn't always work first time - you need to keep going). Or maybe they're using a poor quality recording. There are many reasons why a few folks don't get their desired results, but don't let that discourage you from trying isochronic tones, because they work extremely well for countless people.

I've personally found all three brainwave synchronization techniques to give excellent results. However generally I didn't get these results the first time I listened - I had to practice regularly for a while to begin with. Brainwave synchronization can be extremely potent, but you do have to commit to working with it regularly, and to focus your attention on the recording. Basically, it isn't a magic bullet, and you'll get out what you put into it.

Finding Top Quality Isochronic Recordings

It's very important to use good quality isochronic recordings - it is pointless messing with with badly made recordings that simply don't work well.

I highly recommend taking a look at the enormous collection of isochronic tones from The Unexplainable Store, which is a highly respected site that fully guarantees all its downloads, so you can try them with confidence. You can also get the recordings in binaural and monaural beat formats if you prefer, and there are free samples available for immediate download - find out more at http://www.brain-sync.com
